TheMassageRooms therapist arriving at a London hotel to give a guest an in-room massage

We are a mobile massage service. Since 2009 our therapists have travelled to homes across London, and to hotel rooms just the same. Whether you are stiff from a long flight or just want an hour to yourself before dinner, a therapist can come to your room, usually within the hour, with everything she needs. Simply choose your favourite therapist online and add your room number in the booking comments.

What it is

Massage in Your London Hotel Room

A hotel massage is a treatment given in your room by an independent, vetted therapist who travels to you. It lasts 60, 90 or 120 minutes, on the hotel bed, and she brings the oil and something to have playing quietly. It is the same Swedish, deep tissue, sports or Thai massage we give in people's homes, worked to professional standards throughout. You need nothing except the room you are already in.

You book it the same way as any other massage with us. Put the hotel name or its postcode into the booking form and you will see the therapists who cover that part of London, each with a profile and reviews. Pick the one you like, choose the treatment and how long you want, and add your room number. That is the whole booking.

Value

Why Book In-Room Rather Than the Hotel Spa

If your hotel has a spa, you have probably found it books up days ahead, or it closes not long after dinner, or the price is a good deal steeper than you expected once you are standing at the desk. Plenty of hotels, the smaller ones especially, have no spa at all. Booking your own therapist gets round all of it. Your therapist comes to your room when it suits you, from 7am until late, and the price is the same whichever hotel you are in. When she leaves you are already where you want to be, rather than walking back through the lobby in a robe.

"Guests booking from a hotel usually want one of two things. Something firm to undo a long flight, or something slow so they can sleep on a time difference. Tell me which when I arrive and I build the hour around it."

The difference

What a Hotel Spa Charges, and What We Charge

We offer great value compared to hotel spa prices. The hotel spa column is the sort of rate central London four and five star hotels publish for a straightforward massage, and it moves around by hotel and by treatment. Ours are fixed, wherever you are staying, with nothing added for travel inside London.

Booking

How to Book a Massage to Your Hotel Room

The booking form takes a hotel name as happily as a postcode, so you can type in where you are staying and it will find the therapists who work that area. From there it is quick.

  1. Read a few profiles and reviews, and pick the therapist you like the look of.
  2. Choose a style of massage and how long you want. Most people book 90 minutes.
  3. Put your full name in the booking and your room number in the notes.
  4. Pay by card now, or choose to pay her in cash when she arrives.

Reception will not think twice about it. London hotels see mobile therapists all day.

What Happens When Your Therapist Arrives

There is nothing you need to do to get ready. Your therapist arrives in uniform with her kit bag and knocks at the door. Give her a minute to ask whether anything in particular is bothering you, and she will set up while you get comfortable.

You lie on the bed. Your therapist will step out or turn away while you undress to whatever you are happy with, and you stay under a towel the whole time, with only the area being worked on uncovered. If any of this is new to you, say so when she arrives. She does this every day and will talk you through it.

The room itself just needs enough space to walk around one side of the bed. Nudge the heating up, hang the do-not-disturb sign, and that is really all it takes.

Travelling

After a Flight, or a Long Day of Meetings

A long flight leaves you stiff through the lower back and legs and short of water, and stretching in the aisle never quite touches it. Firm work, deep tissue or sports massage over 90 minutes, is what most people book to undo it. If the real trouble is that your body thinks it is the middle of the afternoon when it is nearly midnight, a slow Swedish massage will do more to get you to sleep.

For jet lag in particular, Indian head massage is the one guests ask for most. Half an hour of slow work over the scalp, neck and shoulders, done sitting up and fully clothed if you prefer, quietens a head that is still on another clock and makes it easier to sleep on the new time zone. Add it to the end of a longer massage or book it on its own.

Coverage

Which London Hotels We Cover

Any hotel that sits in a postcode one of our therapists works, which is most of London. That takes in the well known names around Mayfair, Knightsbridge and the West End, the airport hotels at Heathrow and Gatwick, and the smaller places near the big stations. Aparthotels and serviced apartments are no different to us. The surest way to know is to put the hotel or its postcode into the booking form. If someone covers it, she will show up straight away.

Choosing

Which Treatment to Book

From a hotel, most people go for Swedish massage to wind down and sleep, deep tissue massage for a back that has stiffened up on a flight, or sports massage after training or a day of walking. Indian head massage is the one to book for jet lag or a headache, and you can have it in a chair without undressing. Thai massage is the one exception: it needs a firm surface, so it is better on the floor with a couple of blankets down than on a soft mattress.

If you are not sure, book the one that sounds closest and talk to your therapist when she arrives. You can also compare all our treatments side by side.

Pricing

What a session costs

A hotel massage costs the same as a session anywhere else, because you are paying for your therapist's time rather than for where you booked it. Ninety minutes is what most people book.

60 min Recharge £59 Great for a quick refresh when you're short on time
90 min Zone Out £80 The whole body, no rushing, and the one most people book
2 hours Luxury £110 Everything covered, with time to go back over what needs it
2.5 hours Extended £145 One long session, or 60 and 90 shared between two of you
3 hours For two £170 Usually 90 minutes each, back to back

Travel is included, and there are no extras. What is and is not in the price, in full.
