Physio Style Massage in London to Fix Back Pain

What is physio massage?

Physio-style massage borrows the soft tissue techniques a physiotherapist uses: deep tissue work, trigger point release and myofascial release, aimed at pain, stiffness and getting movement back. It is not physiotherapy, because there is no assessment or diagnosis, and it works best alongside a plan somebody qualified has given you.

What people say about our physio massage therapists

I had a 90 minute massage with Shari and she was excellent! I needed a more therapeutic massage for very tight muscles and her physiotherapy training means she can give much more than just a relaxing massage if that's what you need. I slept better after the massage and today I don't feel as tight and have more energy. Thanks Shari!

Guys, simply CANNOT recommend Marta enough. she is better than other physiotherapists in the fancy clinics. I must have spent more than a grand on these clinics but one massage with MARTA, and I felt like a horse the next day. she has 'Magic hands'. Really satisfied. will book her again and again 😎 😴

Marta really knows what she is doing. So strong for a small lady and her physiotherapy training is clear. She gets it. SHe knows how it all works. So good I'm having another tomorrow. The best I've tried from this company. x

I have never used a mobile service before. I am a massage therapist in a spa and needed to de-stess my aching muscles before my next shift. I chose Vasiliki because of her physio experience and Im so glad I did. Her technique of Balinese, Thai and deep tissue resulted in the best massage Ive had in years and really relaxed my tesnion without being told where they are. I highly recommend her. 😄

How physio massage feels

Purposeful, and there is more conversation in this one than in anything else we do. That is deliberate: your therapist is working from what you tell her.

  • Firm pressure into the muscle and the fascia wrapped around it
  • Trigger point release, held until the muscle gives rather than rubbed at
  • Slow stretches that give a joint back the range it has quietly lost
  • A running back and forth about what hurts, what helps and what has changed since last time
  • Anything from very gentle to properly concentrated, depending on the area

One thing we would rather say than have you discover: this is not a physiotherapy appointment. We do not assess and we do not diagnose. For that, book a registered clinic. Come to us for the hands-on work once you know what you are dealing with.

Is it right for you

Who physio massage suits

Worth booking if

  • A physio has given you a plan and you want help getting through it
  • You have long-standing pain that has been looked at and understood
  • Something has stiffened up and your movement has narrowed around it
  • You are recovering from an injury and the muscle around it stays tight
  • Getting to a clinic each week is the reason you keep not going

Mention it when you book if

  • Nobody has looked at it yet, in which case see a physio first
  • The pain is sharp, new, or spreading down a limb
  • You bruise easily, or you take blood thinning medication
  • You are pregnant, at any stage, so we can send a pregnancy therapist
  • You have had surgery recently and are not cleared for treatment yet
What to expect

What happens during physio massage

Below is how a typical 90 minute session pans out. A 60 or a two hour booking follows the same shape, with more or less of the middle.

  1. Before she arrives

    Have your notes to hand

If a physio has given you a diagnosis or a set of exercises, have it ready. It changes what your therapist does. Bed or floor, and old towels.

  2. First 5 minutes

    What is going on

What hurts, what a physio has said, what movements you have stopped making. Your therapist may watch you move the joint before touching anything.

  3. Next hour and 20

    Hands on

Deep work into the muscle and fascia, trigger points held until they let go, and stretching through the range. Firm, and adapted continuously to what you tell your therapist.

  4. Final 5 minutes

    What to keep doing

Lighter work to finish, then what your therapist found. Usually a stretch or two to keep up between sessions, and an honest view on whether this needs more.

Never had a massage before? Our guide to what to expect at your first massage walks through the whole thing, from preparing the room to how you will feel afterwards.

At home

Where this fits with your physio

A physio assesses, diagnoses and sets a plan. Most of that plan is exercise you do yourself and soft tissue work somebody does for you, and it is the second part we cover.

The practical advantage is frequency. A clinic appointment is an afternoon. This is an hour at your kitchen table end of the day, which means it actually happens weekly rather than whenever you can face the journey.

Questions

Common questions about physio massage

No. We provide the hands-on soft tissue work, not the assessment. If you need to know what is wrong with you, book a registered physiotherapy clinic. Once they have diagnosed it and set a plan, our therapists deliver the massage and stretching part of it at your home.
